Pathway to Completion

At SCCRT, we provide opportunities and pathways for experienced railway workers or new entrants. The pathway for completion for students varies. The best way to ascertain what pathway is right for you is to contact our office. The pathways are listed below:

Entry-level worker

Option 1 | Track Stream School
Students will be undertaking a 'track stream school', which explores the theoretical and practical components, including a Written Assessment and Practical Assessment to be completed, per unit. The length of the track stream school is dependent on variables, such as number of students and industry knowledge and understanding. This school can vary between five (5) to ten (10) days duration.

Option 2 | Blended delivery

The below training is undertaken in stages, often referred to as 'blended delivery'.

Stage 1. Classroom theory training (off-job assessment): Consists of in-class face-to-face training with a qualified SCRT Trainer/Assessor which gives insight and provides instruction on each unit required. The duration of this course varies between one (1) to two (2) days dependent on the students experience and knowledge within the rail network. You will be required to successfully complete Written Assessments prior to commencing Stage 2.

Stage 2: Practical Assessment and On-Job Workbook (OJWB). After successfully completing each relevant Written Assessment, you will be issued an On Job Workbook (OJWB) which covers the practical requirements of each unit, which must be completed in-field. This component must be supervised by a supervisor that is qualified, competent, and holds that relevant unit. Often referred to as subject matter experts (SME's)/mentors, they provide instruction and demonstration relating to the activities/tasks outlined in the OJWB, which allows the learner to have real time experience, gained from exposure to 'live' operational situations whilst attesting you have met the requirements to attempt a Final Assessment. Each OJWB has supporting evidence in the form of video, photo, and documentation that must be supplied to SCCRT in order to proceed to your Final Assessment.

Please note, we will ask for your Supervisor's competencies to verify validity.

Stage 3: Final Assessment. On successful completion and validation of the OJWB by SCCRT, a Final Assessment needs to be undertaken per unit, one on one, with a qualified SCCRT Trainer and Assessor, which confirms underpinning knowledge required to be deemed competent in the relevant units.

Experienced workers

Theory/Gap Assessments with questioning, simulation, discussion and additional supporting evidence, including but not limited to: Supervisors Reports, CV's and relevant qualifications as supporting evidence.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Participants applying for RPL must submit all the required evidence that meets the required criteria

Completion

On successful completion of the selected units, a Statement of Attainment will be issued as per all selected units.
