About Southern Cross Rail Training

Southern Cross Rail Training (SCRT) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 90732), accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver nationally recognised vocational education and training to the rail industry. Our programs are purpose-designed for rail infrastructure, operations and safeworking roles, and align with State and National Rail Safety legislation as well as the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) standards for quality and compliance.

We focus exclusively on the rail sector, working with contractors, network operators and suppliers to deliver training that is practical, current and directly applicable on site. Whether you are entering the industry for the first time or building on existing experience, SCRT provides clear training pathways that support safe, competent and compliant rail operations.

Our Courses

Our courses are drawn from the latest Transport and Logistics Training Packages and cover a range of entry-level, intermediate and advanced competencies for rail workers and supervisors. Programs include track safety awareness, safeworking, track protection, rail infrastructure and specialised skill sets that meet the competency needs of both individuals and organisations operating in the rail environment.

SCRT is an approved training provider for Transport for NSW (TfNSW), Sydney Trains and the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) in New South Wales, with courses mapped to the requirements of these networks and, where relevant, the Rail Industry Worker (RIW) framework. Training is delivered at our head office in Chullora (NSW), and on client sites across NSW and Australia, giving you flexibility to train your workforce where and when it suits operational needs. We offer both accredited and non-accredited options and can contextualise training (within package and regulatory requirements) to align with your systems, procedures and project requirements.

Our Trainers and Support Team

Our trainers and support staff bring decades of combined experience across the rail industry and the vocational education and training (VET) sector, with backgrounds spanning front-line operations, infrastructure maintenance, protection officer duties, supervision and compliance. As qualified, industry-current professionals, they understand the real-world skills, behaviours and safety standards required to work effectively on and around the rail corridor.

We pride ourselves on being approachable and supportive. Our trainers and office staff are available to answer questions, clarify requirements and guide you through enrolment, training and assessment processes. They understand the pressures of rail project work and scheduling, and work with you to make training as clear, organised and efficient as possible while maintaining rigorous assessment and compliance standards.

Our Approach

At SCRT, we focus on building long-term relationships with clients based on trust, transparency and consistent delivery. We take the time to understand your operating environment, site conditions, project timelines and network obligations so that training can be planned and delivered in a way that supports both safety outcomes and business needs.

We are committed to clear communication and responsive service. Our team can assist with course selection, tailored training plans, scheduling, recognition of prior learning (RPL) options and progression pathways, helping you match training to roles, risk profiles and regulatory requirements. Where appropriate, we can adapt delivery modes and schedules (within VET and rail regulatory frameworks) to minimise disruption to operations while still achieving robust, auditable training and assessment outcomes.

Our Commitment

We are committed to delivering high-quality training in a supportive, professional and compliant environment. Our systems and practices are designed to meet the expectations of ASQA, rail safety regulators and major rail networks, so you can be confident that your staff are receiving training that meets both regulatory and industry benchmarks.

Our goal is to provide training that not only meets your immediate operational requirements but also contributes to a safer, more skilled and resilient rail workforce over the long term. By partnering with SCRT, you are working with an RTO that understands rail, values safety and compliance, and is dedicated to helping your people succeed in the rail industry.
