TLI27121 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure: Track Work Stream, Structures, Track Surfacing and Elective Units
Course Description
The TLI27121 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure comprises 16 units of competence to be successfully completed prior to issue of full certification.
To be eligible for Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure, workers must undertake training in the mandatory six (6) units, plus an additional nine (9) units selected from the TLI27121 training package.
Please note: TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor is an industry entry requirement.
The units chosen are usually aligned with the workers current industry role however, an number of options are available and can be customised to suit operational requirements as follows:
Group A | Track Work + 3 Electives
(covers track worker, installer and maintainer)
• TLIB2085 Apply track fundamentals
• TLIB2092 Operate minor mechanical equipment
• TLIS2030 Carry out track ballasting
• TLIS2031 Install railway sleepers
• TLIS2034 Install and repair rail fastening systems
• TLIS2044 Carry out rail installation
Plus 3 x Electives, typically chosen from:
• TLIB2121 Maintain rail joints
• TLIB2097 Install and maintain guard rails
• TLIG0003 Work effectively with others in a team
• TLIS2035 Install and repair fences and gates
• TLIB1093 Clean equipment and restore worksite
• TLIW0007 Operate under track protection rules
Group C | Track Surfacing + 3 Electives
(covers plant/mobile plant operators and permanent way drivers)
• TLIB1093 Clean equipment and restore worksite
• TLIB2001 Check and assess operational capabilities of equipment
• TLIB2085 Apply track fundamentals
• TLIB2091 Measure and record track geometry
• TLIC2058 Travel medium or heavy self-propelled on-track equipment
Or
• TLIC2059 Propel and operate light on-track equipment
Plus 3 x Electives, typically chosen from:
• TLIG0003 Work effectively with others in a team
• TLIW0007 Operate under track protection rules
• TLIW2032 Identify the principles of tamping machine operations
• TLIW2028 Identify the principles of ballast cleaning operations
• TLIW2029 Identify the principles of ballast regulator operations

Entry-level Worker
Option 1. Track Stream School
Duration: Five (5) to ten (10) days
Option 2. Blended Delivery
Theory Course and Assessment: Two (2) to three (3) days
On Job Workbook: Six (6) to twelve (12) months in the field
Final Assessment: One (1) to two (2) days
Experienced Industry Worker
Duration: One (1) to two (2) days via 'assessment' pathway
Duration: One (1) to two (2) days via 'assessment' pathway
