Road Rail Plant Operator
(SCRT provides a suitable manual vehicle or you can bring your own for this training)
Course Description
Nationally accredited training with a Statement of Attainment issued from TLI27121 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure from the Transport and Logistics training package.
This course is designed to teach operators of a road vehicle fitted with retractable rail guidance wheels (also known as a hi-rail vehicle) and may also involve:
• Excavators
• four-wheel drives
• light-medium rigid vehicles
the requirements, rules, and procedures applicable when performing work within a defined worksite, during a work on track authority (Local Possession Authority, Track Work Authority, Track Occupancy Authority).

Course discussion includes, but not limited to:
• Network Rules and Procedures applicable to track machine working
• Worksite protection encounters
• Pre-start/Post-Operational checks
• Access to and from site including on/off-tracking
• Protection requirements in an emergency situation
• Communication protocols
• Speeds and travelling procedures

Requirements
• TLIF0020 Safely access the rail corridor (or equivalent)
• CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (or equivalent)
• Category 1 Medical
• Current Drivers License
• Operator's License, including Statement of Attainment and current Verification of Competency (VOC) - if applicable to the type of machinery that will be operated on the Network.
Age Requirements
Persons over the age of 18 years old.
Dress Requirements
Full rail PPE required including:
• Steel cap, ankle-high lace boots,
• Long clothing, hi-visibility orange shirt,
• Hard hat,
• Safety glasses.

Parking

The Practical Assessment, at nearby sidings, will require participants to demonstrate how to:
• carry out a pre-start/post-operational inspection of a hi-rail vehicle
• safely on/off track a hi-rail vehicle
• competently control a hi-rail vehicle
